Cameron Gilbert
Principal
Cameron Gilbert is an attorney with over sixteen years experience practicing law. He graduated cum laude from St. John’s University School of Law in 1999 and has been handling appeals and complex litigation matters his entire career. He spent three years working for one of the busiest appellate courts in the nation as a court attorney, assisting the bench in deciding appeals by preparing reports based on the record on appeal and the briefs submitted by the parties, recommending the appropriate disposition, and drafting proposed slip opinions. This experience required him to research a wide range of issues in virtually all areas of the law, both criminal and civil, including trial practice and procedure.
After leaving the court system and entering private practice in 2002, Cameron continued his career by assisting attorneys from all over the country with their research and writing needs over the next fourteen years. He has drafted appellate briefs, memoranda of law, motion papers, declarations, affidavits, orders to show cause, and other documents for trial and appellate litigation in state and federal courts on various issues in both civil and criminal practice, both on consulting projects for other attorneys as well as cases handled for layperson clients. In addition, he assisted in evaluating, interviewing, and training other lawyers on various aspects of legal research and writing. More than just a research and writing attorney, Cameron also worked on complex civil litigation matters, conducting discovery, arguing motions, conducting and defending depositions, and representing criminal and civil litigants at trial. He understands both trial and appellate practice and can tailor his services to your specific needs. His work was nationwide, and covered numerous legal issues, including, but not limited to, class action litigation, criminal trials and appeals, personal injury (both plaintiff and defense) trials and appeals, NASD/FINRA arbitrations, intellectual property litigation and appeals, Internet defamation, and commercial litigation and appeals.
Most recently Cameron was at Counsel Press, where he built from scratch the company’s legal research and writing division, providing consulting services to and litigation support to licensed attorneys all over the country. In that position, he created the division’s systems and processes for defining the appropriate scope of the project, giving accurate estimates, and providing deliverables. Cameron personally drafted and revised over 1000 briefs, trial memoranda, and motions and supervised preparation or revision of over an additional 500 briefs, trial memoranda, and motions. He also developed and taught several CLE programs on legal research and writing.
Cameron has now launched his own business providing consulting services, legal research, and writing to licensed attorneys nationwide. He has access to a national legal research database through Lexis and nearly two decades of experience in drafting pleadings, trial memoranda, and briefs and in finding legal authority on myriad issues.
